Just a casual or quick glance at our website should say volumes about who we are and what we do. Few of us make an emotional investment in cheap items, and rarely do we expect these things to provide any meaningful joy or to build any memories. Instead, I chose to treasure what humans create by celebrating it. Themed designs are a tribute to our history and sometimes even to a talented individual. Theme designs provide an opportunity to own and experience something unique and special in historic architecture. Unlike a themed amusement park or restaurant, our structures are not a sham or a parody. They are smaller versions of early styles and building technology that I hope capture the timeless art, beauty, and essence of real historic buildings. Railroad I began our theme-based designs and builds with 19th-century American railroad history. A friend and I have built two reproduction railroad cars and two cabooses from my designs. Many visitors (many!) thought they were in restored vintage equipment, but they were actually brand new. At this time, I have several railroad-style freight, station, or depot designs, some of which are portable; all can be built on site. On the equipment side, new versions of cabooses, an observation car, and a combine car are on the drawing board. All of them are designed to be on either a set of railroad trucks or a road- legal trailer. Seafaring On the board, I am close to completing a theme based on early American maritime history. They include tiny versions of lighthouse keepers' quarters, a lifesaving station, and a dockside building. More on this theme will be posted soon! Colonial We are excited to release our second and newest theme. All are based on Colonial America’s Northern and Southern building styles and methods from the 18th century. Visit our website again soon to watch the process of construction and assembly. We also intend to offer this shed series as a set of plans. The shed pictured is 8' x 12'. It is available in several sizes: 12' x 12’, 10' x 12', and 12' x 16.5’ (just under 200 sq ft). Please contact us if you require a smaller or larger version. Just a quick note: "smaller is not always less expensive." Do you have a favorite historic building? We've been asked if we can simply scale back our original plans. We don’t. We get our inspiration from studying vintage photographs, conducting research, and exploring existing historic buildings. Unfortunately, just scaling or shrinking anything down to a smaller size rarely works. In architecture, doors and porches will shrink too, but real people don’t. Why not just stretch and squish it, you may ask? Anyone who appreciates and respects typography or photography, for example, knows stretching and squashing a photo or typeface will just ruin it, and the same applies to architecture. The same issue occurs when enlarging one of our designs. Scaling up, they lose the "cuteness." To capture the essence of an original design in a smaller and more practical version without distorted results, it takes time, a little optical illusion, and knowledge of available limits. If you have a favorite historic building you would like to see designed and rendered, send me a picture or two. I’ll know pretty quickly if we can, and maybe we can build a tiny one for you!
